Description
A gilded and blackened wall-mounted ornament in the shape of a crowned double-headed eagle, bearing the cipher of Empress Catherine II of Russia at its centre. Slight wear but in a fine state of preservation. 18th century, 1762–1796. H. 7.0 x W. 7.0 cm. Related work A similar, unidentified example is held at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, London (inv. UNI5954).
