Description
Front plate for an officer’s parade cap from the Main School of Engineering, 1819 model. Made of silver-plated copper with an embossed radiating design. Partially cut away, with dents; one of the two screws on the reverse is missing. Russia, 1819–1831. H. 12 x W. 21 cm. History On 24 November 1819, the commanders and officers of the Main Engineering School in Saint Petersburg were presented with a shako badge modelled on those of the Cadet Corps, but beneath the imperial eagle are two crossed axes and a flaming grenade.
