Description
Front plate for a Cadet Corps parade shako, 1810 model. Made of copper with an embossed radiating design. Minor knocks. Russia, first third of the 19th century. H. 12.0 x W. 21.5 cm. History In 1810, a special shako badge appeared amongst the cadets: in the 1st and 2nd Cadet Corps and the Noble Cadet School, the imperial coat of arms was introduced in the form of a semi-circular radiating pattern, with a double-headed eagle at the base of the semi-circle. The eagle did not have a St George’s shield on its breast, but there were lightning bolts and feathers. However, a little later, a shield appeared on the eagle’s breast, and a small flaming grenade was added below it, as seen on our example.
