Rectangular silver cigarette case, 84 zolotniks (875 thousandths), the lid bearing the interlaced ‘KL’ monogram in gold; engraved on the reverse is a dedication in Cyrillic: “From Lieutenant-General Gontcharov and from the comrades in the General Staff of the Finland Military District, 1898”, with a match compartment (scraper missing) and a compartment for tinder (missing). The lid is difficult to open and close. St Petersburg, circa 1898. Silversmith: probably Grigori ARSENEV. L. 10 x W. 6.5 x H. 1.5 cm. Weight: 198.1 g. Provenance Presented by Lieutenant-General Stepan Ossipovich Goncharov (1831–1912) to a staff officer in 1898.
