Description
Russian school, c. 1840. Portrait of an adjutant’s aide in the Imperial Guard of Emperor Nicholas I (1796–1855). Oil on canvas (with some damage). He is depicted seated, in a three-quarter profile to the left, wearing the 4th-class Cross of the Order of St Anne and the medal for the Russo-Turkish War of 1829–1829. On the reverse is a typewritten label in Polish: “Olej na płótnie, podobizna pradziada N. Zařeckého od nieznámego malíře, uszkodzony” (Oil on canvas, portrait of great-grandfather N. Zařecký, by an unknown painter, damaged). H. 80.5 x W. 66.5 cm.
