Description
A rare rifle, Carlé system, 1867 model, with a walnut stock, steel and brass fittings, bearing the manufacturer’s mark ‘SESTRORETSK’ and the date ‘1868’ on the butt, and a cleaning rod under the barrel. Signs of wear. Russia, Sestroretsk Arms Factory, 1868. Length: 135 cm. History The Carlé system rifle, model 1867, represents a key transitional stage in the history of Russian armaments. Adopted to rapidly modernise the old percussion rifles following the Crimean War, it was produced for a very brief period, from 1867 to 1869, before being replaced by the Krnka system. As the majority of examples were subsequently modified or withdrawn from service, Carlé rifles preserved in their original configuration are now particularly rare and highly sought-after. Category D Weapon classified in Category ‘D’ under Decree No. 2023-556 of 3 July 2023; acquisition and possession unrestricted
