Mosin-Nagant infantry rifle, 1891 model, with walnut stock, steel fittings, bearing the manufacturer’s mark ‘New England / Westinghouse Company’ and the date ‘1915’, with the inspection mark of the Tula Arms Factory. Serial No.: 124651 L. 130 cm Background Faced with the enormous demand generated by the First World War, the Russian arsenals at Tula, Izhevsk and Sestroretsk were no longer sufficient to meet demand, so the imperial government ordered more than 1.8 million Mosin-Nagant rifles from the American companies Remington and New England Westinghouse between 1915 and 1917.
