Winchester rifle, Model 1895, Russian contract, wooden stock, steel fittings, trigger guard bearing the manufacturer’s mark ‘MANUFACTURED BY THE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A.”, with its leather sling. Signs of wear. United States, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, New Haven, for Russia, circa 1915–1916. L. 117 cm. Background Imperial Russia ordered around 300,000 of these rifles to alleviate the severe shortage of rifles caused by the First World War. This military variant is distinguished in particular by its long barrel, its Russian calibre and its ramrod guides, which are absent from civilian Winchester 1895 models. Category C Weapon classified as Category ‘C’ under Decree No. 2018-542 of 29 June 2018, and subject to registration.
