Description
An important neoclassical-style vermeil ciborium, with a circular base resting on a fluted heel decorated with Eucharistic symbols alternating with the theological virtues, a motif repeated on the baluster shaft and the lid, the false cup alternates between pairs of cherubs and oval medallions depicting the Holy Family, Christ on the Cross and the Virgin Mary. Vieillard hallmark, 1st class (1819–1838). Hallmark of the Parisian master goldsmith Jacques-Alexandre BASNIER (hallmark engraved on 17 September 1827). Height: 33 cm. Weight: 688 grams. Probable earlier restoration work to the base. Slight signs of wear.
