Sculpture depicting a young saint or cleric; Italy; late 18th century; carved wood; 33 x 14 x 14 cm A carved, sculpted and polychromed wooden sculpture depicting a young saint in clerical robes, standing on a moulded plinth, holding a book in his left hand. The youthful features of the face and the clerical attire are characteristic of the traditional iconography of Saint Aloysius Gonzaga. Traces of original polychromy and gilding. Extensive wear and loss of polychromy and gilding, scuffing, woodworm holes, missing parts and gaps, particularly on the right arm and the lower parts of the robe; restoration and consolidation work to be verified.
