Two altar candlesticks TO BE JOINED WITH ANOTHER CANDLESTICK Italy; late 18th – early 19th century Gilded and carved wood - A large candlestick in carved and gilded wood, resting on a moulded, triangular base; tapered shaft with fluting and stylised foliage motifs, culminating in a Corinthian-style capital and an upper shelf with an iron spike for holding the candle. Mission-style gilding with an antique patina. Wear and flaking of the gilding, abrasions, minor knocks and losses. Dimensions: 134 x 30 cm. – Altar candlestick in carved and gilded wood, resting on a mixed-line base adorned with volutes and plant motifs; an architectural shaft with overlapping elements, featuring rosette decorations, beading and moulded panels, culminating in an upper cup with an openwork iron gallery and a spire to hold the candle.
