A refined early view by Piranesi, rendering the monumental façade of the palace in its original layout, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, with rigorous perspective. The composition, characterised by a strong chiaroscuro effect, is enlivened in the foreground by typical 18th-century ‘macchiette’ (prelates, wayfarers and passers-by in period costume). Series: Various Views of Ancient and Modern Rome (published from the 1740s onwards). Condition of the sheet: Generous original margins intact beyond the copper plate’s edge.
