Jean-Baptiste LAFFARGUE (1897–1944) for SARREGUEMINES Ramuntcho, the design created around 1930 A LARGE DINNER SERVICE in fine, polychrome-glazed earthenware, featuring a reserve-decorated design of two views of the Basque Country and the Basque Coast, comprising 66 pieces, namely: - 23 plates (Ossès, Dorea and La Rhune, Farm at Ibarron, Ascain – the painter’s birthplace, Iratzia Farm, Old Basque house at Aïnhoa, Farm at Itxassou, Souhiberry Farm at Urrugne, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port (x3), Jatxu (x5), Halsou Church (x6). - 12 dessert plates (The red rocks of La Rhune, Ciboure – Unusual house at La Croix Blanche, Itxassou – Near the Pas de Rolland, One of the bridges at Bidarray (trout fishing), The banks of the Nivelle, Some old houses in Ciboure, House in Ossès (x2), Bidarray Church (x2), Old house in Bidarray (x2). - 16 soup plates (The village of Jaxtsu, Halsou Church, Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, A farm in Itxassou, Old Basque house in Aïnhoa, Saint-Jean-de-Luz - The Iratzia farm (x2), Dorea and the Rhune (x3), The Souhiberry farm in Urrugne (x2), The village of Ascain (x2), The village of Ossès (x2). - 1 Plate on a pedestal (House in Ossès) - 2 Bowls on a base (Mill in Saint-Jean-le-Vieux, Ciboure – House with the White Cross) - 1 Jug - 2 Gravy boats (One restored at the base) - 4 Small bowls - 1 Vegetable dish (Hendaye – Pierre Loti’s house) - 1 Meat dish (Sare) - 1 Hexagonal salad bowl (The village of Jaxtsu) (Cracked) - 1 Soup tureen - 1 Pot-à-Oille Each piece is monogrammed as part of the decoration, mostly on the reverse. Mark on the reverse, concealed beneath the decoration, of the Manufacture. (Good condition, a few scattered chips on the plates)
