Note: Alexis-Pierre DUCASTIN is described in the Bénézit as a "portrait and genre painter" from 1834 to 1849. We also know that he assisted Henry SCHEFFER (1798-1862), Louis-Philippe's painter, with the history painting "Battle of Montmirail-11 February 1814", painted in 1835 for the Château de Versailles. In 1858 and 1860, the State also commissioned two copies of the half-body portrait of Napoleon III after WINTERHALTER (CNAP collection: inventory no. FNAC PFH-3920 and FNAC FH 860-84).
