Copy enriched with 2 autograph letters signed by Guy de Maupassant and a letter from Jules Renard to Edouard Estaunié. Some foxing.

In 1888, Edouard Estaunié was preparing his first novel Un Simple, originally called Stéphane, which happened to have the same subject as Pierre et Jean. Maupassant," adds Clément-Janin (who published this letter in Le Monde Nouveau on 15 July 1924), "would have consented to this letter serving as a preface to Un Simple. Estaunié simply dedicated his novel to him, which was published three years later.
