Description
[FREEMASONRY] Master’s Certificate Lille, 1760. On full-sheet vellum, handwritten in brown ink. Issued by the Lille lodge ‘L’Union Indissoluble’, this certificate — of the category known as a ‘certificate of good character and regularity’ — intended to vouch for a travelling brother at the lodges he might visit, attests that Brother Dominique Beaussier, a native of Lille and a merchant, was received as an Apprentice and then a Fellow Craft, before being raised to the degree of Master. An inverted triangular seal bearing the inscription ‘I.·.M.·.B.·.’ and the year ‘5760’, accompanied by a fragment of blue silk ribbon, a remnant of the seal’s fastening.
Folded vellum, soiling and small stains, marginal pinhole; sealing ribbon incomplete; text and signatures clearly legible.
