Description
Draped female figurine known as "Tanagra".
Greece, Boeotia, Hellenistic period, ca. IIIᵉ century BC.
Young woman standing, draped in a loose himation covering the chiton, right arm brought in front of the bust supporting the folds. Head slightly bowed, hairstyle in a low bun (krobylos). Pinkish beige terracotta, white slip, partially preserved pink and mauve polychromy. Oval firing vent on reverse.
Height: 24 cm
Condition: old restorations, in particular a filling on the right flank; the head may have been added, with a different clay and patina from the body. Partial polychromy, earthy
earthy concretions.
Provenance: former French collection, acquired at auction in the 1990s; by descent.
