CHINA, late Qing Dynasty. Republican period, circa 1900–1930. Rectangular box in carved red lacquer, known as ‘cinnabar’, on a brass core, the hinged lid decorated with a lakeside landscape featuring a pavilion and a boat amongst the mountains, the sides decorated with floral scrollwork, and the base with peonies. Blue enamelled interior. Approx. 15.5 x 10.5 x 5 cm.
