Description
* IATMUL, MIDDLE SEPIK, PAPUA NEW GUINEA.
An old wooden stool with a long-lasting brown patina, in the shape of a diabolo or hourglass. The seat and base are two opposing cones with the space between the two points maintained by two legs carved with faces at the top and catfish heads at the base. Under the seat, one part is grooved and the other shows crocodile scales, a symbol of power. This type of piece was used in Men's Houses when Councils were held. Old collector's label marked "B147 (a) Brugnavi".
