Description
¤ DOGON, MALI
Kneeling statue of ancestor or mythical being in hard wood (acacia) with brown patina for ritual use. The head has the classic facial features of the ethnic group (arrow-shaped nose, small mouth without a chin, etc). It is supported by a long neck, followed by the torso and two arms raised on either side of the mouth, seemingly in a calling position. Like the head, most of the anatomical parts are scarified, including the back. At the bottom, the two feet and knees rest on a small circular base.
