Description
BAMBARA, MALI
Cywara head crest in wood with a thick crusty patina for long ritual use. It represents a gazelle with horizontal horns attached at the end (a sign of age) and a raised tail. Small white eyes are attached with small nails, and the ears have small cowrie shell pendants. Finally, the neck is surrounded by skin and hair. An old label with a number is stuck under the base. Fn 19th - early 20th century.
