KANAK, NEW CALEDONIA
O'kono votive axe known as the "Monstrance". A polished stone blade of discoidal shape, grey in colour with green highlights, made of serpentine or jadeite. It has two holes for attaching it to a hard wooden handle surrounded by fabric and braided bat hair that needs restoring. Long ritual use with a beautiful antique patina. Late 19th century.
