Description
¤ BAMBARA, SEGOU, MALI
Female hardwood statue with a beautiful brown patina for ritual use. She is standing with her head held high, topped with a crest. The face, with its very sober features, has no eyes and ends in a small, very thin mouth. A long neck links the head to the beautiful, energetic chest, below which fall the two half-bent arms, well detached from the scarred bust with its prominent navel. Beautifully curved legs descend onto two well-designed feet resting on a circular base. The upper part of the back is decorated with scarification marks across its entire width.
First half of the 20th century
