The elongated, foliate spearheads have a pronounced central rib and a flared base, giving them a particularly well-balanced silhouette. In many Central African societies, this type of weapon was used for much more than just warfare. Spears were emblems of prestige, associated with chiefs, dignitaries or initiation societies, and were used in public ceremonies, processions or as insignia of authority.
