Leopold III Biological Station on Laing Island. Archives and period photographs preserved.
A strange little vial sculpted from a marine shell, evoking the stylised shape of a fish.
The container is closed by an animal tooth serving as a stopper. These miniature containers
could contain substances for ritual, medicinal or magical use, and bear witness to the ingenuity
the ingenuity of Papuan craftsmen in transforming natural materials.
