Description
Small ceremonial bag Papua New Guinea Woven plant fibres and shell beads. Dimensions: 30 cm. Provenance: Former Guy Seghers collection (Belgium). Collected in Papua New- Guinea between 1970 and 1980 during scientific missions linked to the Leopold III Biological Station on Laing Island. Leopold III Biological Station on Laing Island. Archives and period photographs preserved. Small bag made from plant fibres and decorated entirely with white shell beads. Used for personal objects or ornaments, it illustrates the importance of marine materials in the ornamental in the ornamental traditions of Papua New Guinea.
