Galukoji Oracle and Ikhoko charms, Pende Democratic Republic of Congo Provenance: Private collection, Belgium, acquired from a colonial family Materials: wood, feathers Height: 21 - Length 16 cm Articulated oracle with a wooden face topped with feathers. Necklace of several Pende charms. Galukoji are divination instruments made of wood, fibres and sometimes feathers. to question the spirits and guide community decisions. Their mechanism is often surmounted symbolise the presence of an active spiritual force, as is emphasised in specialised auction catalogues where auction catalogues, where these objects are described as sacred tools linked to the practice of ngombo. to the practice of ngombo, the Pende divinatory art.
