Description
CHINA, late Qing Dynasty – early Republican period

The oval-shaped bowl is adorned with engraved calligraphic inscriptions and framed by two pale celadon jadeite handles terminating in chimera heads. The lid, finely embossed and chiselled in the form of a reclining deer, is executed with remarkable attention to detail in the rendering of the coat and stylised motifs; the eyes are inlaid, and there is an internal receptacle. Engraved marks on the base including ‘Chaoyang’ (朝阳), ‘Shunxing Laodian’ and ‘Zhenliao Dianxi’ (真料点锡).
17 x 27 cm
(Slight wear and minor chips).
