Description
JAPAN, Meiji period
A very important bronze okimono with a brown patina, depicting a bird of prey perched on a leafy trunk, its talons firmly clamped and wings spread in a dynamic pose, ready to take flight. The whole piece is executed in a highly naturalistic style.
The eyes are inlaid with gilded brass.
(The wings are detachable; there are losses to the wings, and the patina shows signs of oxidation).
98 x 100 x 77 cm
Provenance: a private collection in Monaco.
