CAMBODIA, Khmer period, Angkor period, 12th century
A sandstone stele, the central section of which depicts the figure of the deity Avalokitesvara seated in the vajrasana posture within an architectural niche adorned with flamed motifs. The deity is depicted with four arms; the lower two hands are joined in dhyana mudra, holding the nectar vase, whilst the upper arms, now partially eroded, would have borne symbolic attributes.
