BURMA, Kingdom of Mandalay, 19th century
A large mandorla comprising five finely carved and gilded teak elements, featuring openwork decoration of foliage scrolls and floral motifs. The central panel features a motif of a flame rising from a stylised lotus. The two side panels display a symmetrical design of plant scrolls, whilst the vertical uprights are adorned with foliage and stylised peacocks at their bases. Accented with coloured glass beads in places.
