Description
CHINA, 20th century
A large celadon porcelain seal, the square-shaped seal block engraved with a nine-character seal mark. The handle follows the shape of the stamp and features a richly moulded and openwork decoration, depicting a series of qilong dragons with sinuous bodies, crawling through the clouds. The whole is covered in a light celadon glaze, bearing a vertical inscription in cobalt blue under the glaze on one side of the body.
10.2 x 8.2 x 8.4 cm
This seal is modelled on one created during the lifetime of Emperor Yongzheng (1678–1735), the fourth son of Emperor Kangxi, whilst he still bore the title of Prince Yong.
A similar example is now held in the collections of the Palace Museum in Beijing.
