Description
A pair of Japanese samurai armour (kote)
These are kote, the arm guards from traditional Japanese samurai armour. They protected the warrior’s arms from the wrist to the upper arm, including a hand guard at the end. Made from a fabric base, chainmail and small iron plates, they balanced protection and mobility for combat. The decorative lacing and patterned fabric reflect the craftsmanship of Edo-period samurai armour.
19th century. Edo period. L: 90 cm.
