Description
A Tibetan thangka depicting ‘Śākyamuni’. Despite the deterioration, the central figure remains visible: a Buddha seated in meditation on a lotus throne. The Buddha has a calm expression, a circular halo behind his head, and wears traditional monastic robes with traces of red and green pigments still discernible. Surrounding the central Buddha are faintly visible smaller figures—likely disciples, bodhisattvas, or protective deities—positioned in the upper and lower sections of the composition. The thangka is bordered by traditional silk brocade in warm brown, gold, and deep green tones. This thangka is an aged and heavily worn Tibetan Buddhist painting, showing significant fading, creasing and surface loss resulting from many years of use or storage. 18th/19th century. L: 147 x 64 cm. With some slight superficial wear.
