Description
Two pairs of Chinese famille rose porcelain “Xi-xiang Ji” cups and saucers. They depict the “Farewell at the Pavilion” scene from *The Romance of the Western Chamber*, in which Yingying bids an emotional farewell to Zhang Sheng. As Zhang prepares to leave for the capital to sit the imperial examinations, the lovers meet at a pavilion outside the city — a place symbolising both parting and longing — bearing the Xian-feng seal mark in iron-red. 19th/20th century. Cups: 8 x 6.8 cm, saucer: 12.7 cm. In perfect condition (UV-checked).
