Description
RECONSTRUCTED JAM JAR OR SUGAR BOWL
with a silver mount in the shape of an antique vase, resting on a circular pedestal decorated with a frieze of pearls and water leaves. The body is decorated with godrons in the lower section, followed by an openwork frieze featuring chimeras, Athenian motifs and palmettes, topped on each side by a man’s face. The neck is adorned with a frieze of beaded fluting, and the coiled handles are each decorated with a flower whose stem ends in a chimera’s head.
Hallmarks featuring a Greek woman’s head, a Paris hallmark for 1798–1809, and the silversmith’s mark: Nicolas – Richard Masson (stamped in 1798).

The circular lid is set on a rim decorated with a frieze of palmettes and crowned by a dove on a gadrone.
