Description
SET OF THREE SALT SHAKERS by Joseph Germain Dutalis (1780–1852). The silver mountings rest on oval-shaped bases decorated with foliage-motif rings. The ship-shaped bodies feature openwork decoration of lancets and support a stylised, unengraved shield. The necks are adorned with friezes of palmettes, and the leaf-motif side panels terminate in eagle heads.  Hallmarks: 1st Rooster, 2nd fineness, Brussels, 1798–1809, and silversmith’s mark: Joseph Germain Dutalis (1780–1852).  Height: 9.5 cm. Total weight: 287 g. With their cut, translucent glass liners. (Normal wear and scratches on the frames; some chipping on the liners).  Provenance: Orfèvrà (?) in Brussels, 13 April 1987. Exhibition: These were exhibited at a J.G. Dutalis exhibition at the Sterckshof (Deurne/Antwerp) from 7 September 2004 to 28 November 2004 and at Het Loo Palace in Apeldoorn (Netherlands) from 18 December 2004 to 13 March 2005.
