Description:
Our impressive soup tureen, dated 1828, was likely commissioned for Charles Ingoldsby Paulet, 13th Marquess of Winchester (1764–1843). A member of one of the oldest families in the English peerage, Charles Ingoldsby Paulet succeeded his father as the 13th Marquis of Winchester in 1800. A former Member of Parliament for Truro and Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, he also enjoyed a distinguished career at court: appointed Groom of the Stole to George III in 1812, he retained this position under George IV and then William IV until 1837.
