Description
JUG A coffee pot or large jug in white porcelain, decorated with gilded lambrequins and leafy garlands.  Each is adorned with a ribbon-bound medallion featuring a polychrome painted scene of bouquets of flowers. Marked on the underside. Paris, late 18th century or early 19th century. Height: 31 cm. (signs of wear and restoration; sold as is). Note: Enclosed is a copy of a document detailing the alleged provenance of this object, according to which this jug is said to have been presented by Emperor Joseph II to Emmanuel Louis Petit, a deputy of the Third Estate for Hainaut, who was sent to the Austrian court. According to this document, it was subsequently inherited by Gervais Placide Cousin (1738–1814) and his wife Catherine Françoise Petit (1738–1807), before being passed down to their descendants through inheritance.
