Description
RARE SET OF TWELVE TABLE CUTLERY PIECES comprising six three-tined forks and six knives. The pistol-shaped handles are made of white porcelain and feature a blue decoration known as ‘Formal Daisy’, consisting of festoons and scrollwork in the French style. Silver ferrules. The prongs and blades are made of steel. The knife blades are all marked ‘IEFFERYS’ for Jefferys, cutler. England, Royal Worcester Porcelain Company (handles), second half of the 18th century, circa 1765. Total length of a knife: 27.7 cm – Length of a knife handle: 10.8 cm; Total length of a fork: 21 cm – Length of a fork handle: 9.7 cm; (Visible damage and losses). Note: The Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk (Virginia) holds a similar knife and fork [Inv. Nos. L2005.10.360.1 and L2005.10.360.2].
