Description
An impressive canopied bed in carved and moulded walnut, the headboard flanked by columns with Ionic capitals surmounted by centurions. The central panel, decorated with the mythological scene of the Apple of Discord, is brought to life by ancient figures, surrounded by broad acanthus scrolls and crowned by a putto. The whole piece rests on a substantial base decorated with mythological scenes (Apollo on his chariot, Apollo and Daphne, Leda and the swan, Diana at her bath), ancient gods and goddesses (Juno, Mars, Venus, Neptune and Mercury), supported by four large lion’s paws; the front columns are also adorned with mythological bas-reliefs reminiscent of those on the panels.
