Armchair, model 'Paimio 41' created circa 1932.
Structure in birch plywood and curved strips forming armrests and base, enclosing a sheet of black-stained birch plywood and curved strip forming seat and back.

A 'Paimio 41' armchair, model designed c. 1932, plywood birch structure, black tinted plywood birch seat and backrest.

HISTORY The Paimio sanatorium in Finland was designed by the architect Alvar Aalto in 1928, who also created all the furniture for the building. Aalto's most famous piece of furniture, the "Paimio" armchair, was used in the patients' lounge, where the inclined backrest was designed to facilitate breathing.
