Description
PICAULT Robert (1919–2000) – Rectangular dish in green and white glazed earthenware with a geometric design. Signed with a monogram. Length: 31.5 cm – width: 24 cm. Note: Trained at the École des Arts appliqués in Paris, Robert Picault settled in Vallauris in 1946, where, alongside Roger Capron and Jean Derval, he helped found the Callis studio, a key player in the post-war revival of ceramics. He subsequently opened his own studio and developed a body of work immediately recognisable by its geometric patterns and green glazes. In 1963, he was invited to Italy to take up the role of artistic director at the Cerasarda factory in Sardinia. His work has been the subject of a seminal monograph: *Robert Picault*, by Jean Lepape and Jean-Jacques Wattel, published by Éditions Louvre Victoire in 2022.
