Description
PICAULT Robert (1919–2000) – Crater-shaped vase in green, blue and white glazed earthenware with a geometric decoration. Signed with a monogram. Height: 21.5 cm – Diameter: 19.5 cm. (A vase with a stable hairline crack). Note: Trained at the École des Arts appliqués in Paris, Robert Picault settled in Vallauris in 1946, where, alongside Roger Capron and Jean Derval, he helped found the Callis workshop, a key player in the post-war revival of ceramics. He subsequently opened his own studio and developed a body of work immediately recognisable by its geometric patterns and green glazes. In 1963, he was invited to Italy to take on the role of artistic director at the Cerasarda factory in Sardinia. His work has been the subject of a seminal monograph: *Robert Picault*, by Jean Lepape and Jean-Jacques Wattel, published by Éditions Louvre Victoire in 2022.
