Description
ACCOLAY (The Potters of) – A bulbous glazed ceramic vase decorated with faux fluting in a monochrome colour scheme. Signed on the base; bears a coat of arms and the monogram ‘Nd’. Height: 27 cm. Note: The Accolay potters’ workshop, founded in 1945 in the Yonne department (89), in the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region, was established by André Boutaud, Louis Dangon, Slavik Paley and Rodet, former apprentices of Alexandre Kostanda. They are known for their creations combining modern forms and innovative glazes, which they sold from premises lining the N6 road, including a petrol station. The potters of Accolay collaborated with artists and ceramists such as André Pelletier, Rafael Giarusso, Alain Coula, Élie Barrachant and Daniel Auger. The workshop, which had been taken over by the employees, closed its doors for good in the 1980s.
