LE VERRIER, Max (1891–1973) – Mowgli and the panther Bagheera. Artistic cast iron sculpture, of standard quality, with a dark brown and light green patina, resting on an asymmetrical plinth made of reconstituted stone. Signed on the base. 20th century. This model is no longer in production. Height of the sculpture: 28 cm. Length of the sculpture: 58 cm. Total height: 35 cm. Total length: 62 cm. Note: Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1891, Max Le Verrier came from a family with links to the metalworking arts, his father being a goldsmith and jeweller. A pilot during the First World War, he was taken prisoner and began to practise modelling. Interned in Switzerland, he continued his training at the École des Beaux-Arts in Geneva, where he rubbed shoulders with Pierre Le Faguays and Marcel Bouraine, two sculptors who would remain influential in his career. On his return to Paris, he founded his own firm in 1918 and established himself in the 1920s and 1930s as one of the leading figures in Art Deco decorative sculpture. His studio produced his own designs as well as those of other artists, notably Le Faguays, Bouraine, Fayral and Guerbe. The Max Le Verrier studio still exists today and continues to produce certain historic designs in the tradition of patinated art castings.
