PALATNIK Abraham (1928–2020) – Large sailfish. Sculpture in transparent resin with black pigmented decoration, depicting a sailfish. Signed ‘PAL’. Circa 1970. Height: 28 cm. Note: Abraham Palatnik was a Brazilian artist and a pioneer of kinetic art in Brazil; his work is held in the collections of the MoMA in New York. In the 1970s, together with his brother Aminadav, he developed, through the company Silon, a range of design objects in transparent resin, mainly featuring animals. These pieces, often signed ‘PAL’, represent a mass-produced extension of his research into light, transparency and optical effects, at the crossroads of kinetic art and modern Brazilian design.
