Tsuguharu FOUJITA (1886–1968): Portrait of Claire Goll Ink and wash drawing on Japanese paper. Signed and dated 1926 in the lower left-hand corner. Inscribed at the top ‘To the ravishing goddess of clear poetry’, Foujita. 31 x 25 cm Minor oxidation, two hanging holes at the top. Claire Goll (1891–1977), French poet and novelist. Wife of the poet Yvan Goll and mistress of Rainer Maria Rilke. Foujita produced an engraving of Yvan and Claire Goll for the book *Poème de jalousie*, which appeared on the title page of this collection and depicted the authors of the poems. Provenance: - probably formerly in the collection of Charles Zalber, owner of the Lucie Weill & Seligmann gallery in Saint-Germain-des-Prés, Paris. - private collection of Mr T.
