Description
Joëlle DEROUBAIX (1946–2019) A large terracotta sculpture in the style of half-relief, depicting the face of a woman (or a goddess), a favourite subject of the artist, ceramist and sculptor Joëlle Deroubaix. Signed and dated ‘J DEROUBAIX 18 12 84’ on one of the edges. H.: 40 cm – W.: 30 cm – D. (nose): 20 cm. Original hanging mechanism on the inside. Very good condition. In the late 1960s, Joëlle Deroubaix met her future husband, Jacques Laroussinie, at the Faculty of Arts in Paris. They were both students at the Bourges School of Fine Arts, in the Lerat studio, in the early 1970s. Although they settled in Vieuvicq (Eure-et-Loir), where Jacques built his first wood-fired kiln (Sèvres-type, a ‘copy’ of the Lerats’ kiln), they were part of the La Borne adventure (La Borne Symposium, 1977). After separating in 1978, Joëlle remained in Vieuvicq, in her house-studio-garden, until her death. Illustrative material: photograph by Joël Anfray in *L’Echo Républicain* of 5 July 2016 (similar sculpture)
