Paris, Published by the Journal des Dames, 1912–1914. 79 in-8° instalments bound in 4 volumes in beige cloth with illustrated spines. 184 fashion plates, engraved in intaglio and coloured according to patterns, based on compositions by George Barbier, Léon Bakst, B. Berty, Bernard Boutet de Monvel, Roger Broders, Jan van Brock, Umberto Brunelleschi, H. Robert Dammy, Étienne Drian, Abel Faivre, Marie-Madeleine Franc-Nohain, Xavier Gosé, Paul Iribe, Kriegck, Victor Lhuer, Pierre Legrain, Charles Martin, Fernand Siméon, Ismael Smith, Armand Vallée and Gerda Wegener. Founded by Tommaso Antongini (1877–1967), secretary to Gabriele D’Annunzio, and the magazine journalist Jacques de Nouvion (1880–1918), the illustrated fashion magazine *Le Journal des dames et des modes* first appeared in June 1912 and ceased publication in August 1914 due to the war. The first issue featured a preface by Anatole France. The columns were written by Robert de Montesquiou, Robert de Flers, Marcelle Tinayre and René Boylesve. It also features poems by Jean Cocteau, Anna de Noailles, Lucie Delarue-Mardrus and others. Provenance: the private collection of Mr T. (Paris 2nd arrondissement)
